Director of Operations
Adam is a licensed Physical Therapist, licensed and certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Adam is the Owner and serves as the Director of Operations for TORK Sports Performance. He is a Medical Advisor for oncoming clients, performing screening and assessments to identify limitations and deficiencies that may contribute to poor performance or increased risk of injury. Adam is also the lead strength coach for the gymnastics division at TORK.
As Co-Owner and practicing clinician at Atlas Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, Adam has practiced as a sports medicine physical therapist in the Jacksonville area since 2001. Having received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of North Florida, he has always maintained his attentiveness for sports medicine and orthopedics. He prides himself on providing research-backed care that promotes individual resilience and personal ownership of one’s health. He has rehabilitated all levels of athletes from youth to NCAA to professionals including MLB, MiLB, and NFL. Within more recent years, his devotion to the field of strength and conditioning has grown significantly. Adam has competed in USAPL powerlifting events and has utilized science-driven training to build his understanding of exercise science. In turn, he has trained and programmed not only for himself but for numerous clients. His emphasis is on developing strong, powerful, and resilient athletes, the pillars of TORK Sports Performance.
As a result of his passion for strength and conditioning and his daughter’s participation in competitive gymnastics, Adam has since become the lead strength coach for Tork’s gymnastics division. In conjunction with gyms around the area, Adam has provided comprehensive, foundational strength and conditioning programs to maximize athletic potential and minimize injury risk. In addition to providing exceptional training, he also seeks to teach practical and sustainable habits by educating them on such principles as energy balance, load management, and intensity undulation. He has worked in a medical and strength and conditioning capacity with all levels of USGA competitive gymnasts through NCAA.
When not growing professionally as a clinician, Adam has an equal passion for business and leadership. He has invested previous time attending management and leadership training through Crestcom’s Bullet Proof Manager program. He has also spoken nationally on topics of business development and sustainability. He is driven first and foremost by his desire to be a role model for his children, for his professional network, and for his clients and patients. A role model that exemplifies the desire to continually challenge one’s self to be better and demonstrate that any individual can “make their own luck” and be successful in this world.
Adam seeks to drive the TORK Sports Performance model on the premise of providing individualized, exceptional training, and a culture of balanced professionalism and fun. TORK is the product of a few ambitious, driven, dedicated, and passionate individuals. Adam is proud to be a member of this team.

Tom Gormely is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, ABPTS Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, and Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has trained athletes for nearly a decade and has served as the Director of Sports Performance at TORK Sports Performance since its inception. He also currently practices performance physical therapy at Atlas Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, where he works to blend current concepts in strength and conditioning with a progressive rehabilitation model. Dr. Gormely was one of the first Blood Flow Restriction Certified Providers in the state of Florida, through Owens Recovery Science. Tom has served as a strength coach, therapist, consultant, presenter, and educator for athletes and various professional/NCAA teams. He has collaborated and/or consulted with multiple teams, training staff, and strength coaches on training program design.
Dr. Gormely has spent his professional career training athletes to improve their mobility, motor control, coordination, strength, power, speed, and/or rotational velocity. His program design is a comprehensive plan that seeks to address force-velocity limits assessed during his screening process. He has worked as a strength and conditioning coach and physical therapist with athletes from the MLB, MiLB, NFL, NFL Combine Prep, USOC, NCAA, Crossfit Games, and USA Powerlifting. He was a 2016-2017 intern for Force Physical Therapy at Bommarito’s Sports Performance for their Off-Season MLB Program and NFL Combine Prep (Davie). Dr. Gormely has also presented his unique research, in a poster presentation, at the 2017 NSCA National Conference, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tom has special interests in rotational and throwing athletes. He was a baseball player himself, who, after his playing days ended, transitioned to deepening his understanding of maximal strength, rotational power, arm health and throwing performance. Tom’s eclectic understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, muscle physiology, exercise science, and motor learning helps him construct scientifically driven programs that improve force, power, and velocity; while minimizing injury risk. Additionally, Dr. Gormely is recognized nationally as a Baseball Health Professional Certified Provider, through Baseball Health Professionals, LLC, as well as a Rapsodo Pitching - Certified Instructor. He is known for his detailed approach to assessing, treating, training, and developing elite throwers.
Tom is energized by his continued learning about and implementation of athletic patterns, athlete motion analysis, force-velocity data tracking, speed development, rotational/arm velocity enhancement, strength/power potentiated program design, autoregulation, and Velocity Based Training. Although he prides himself on not providing a narrow-minded and dogmatic approach to athlete development, he does have experience with utilization of PRI, FRC, DNS, P-BFR, Driveline Protocols/Drills, ART, IASTM. He also serves as the Director of Applied Clinical Science at Atlas Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine. Dr. Gormely is continually challenging himself, and his team, to better understand the science that drives athletic performance.
Tom helped found TORK Sports Performance from a 300 sq ft back room inside of a shared physical therapy clinic, into the 3000+ sq ft training facility it is today. With a detailed and scientific approach to assessment, data tracking, program design, and autoregulation of his training systems; he has developed 100s of athletes including multiple D1 NCAA athletes, NFL players, and MLB players. Tom is a strength coach who will lift, sprint, and throw right alongside his athletes, as a passionate competitor. He has competed in multiple raw USAPL powerlifting meets and currently holds a Class 1 designation.
Tom is most passionate about being a lifelong learner of scientific literature, in order to provide the best current programming for his athletes. He is continually chasing human performance optimization through strength, power, speed, and resilience. Dr. Gormely has a unique understanding of the athletic performance continuum, from acute injury through high human performance. He embraces complexity and thinking outside-of-the-box, while challenging industry biases and norms, in his creation of athletic programming.

Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach
AJ Basso is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. His passion lies in the development of athletes through the application of foundational strength and conditioning literature and current scientific concepts. He has served as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach since the formation of TORK Sports Performance. AJ continues to educate himself through various national conferences, strength and conditioning texts, and current scientific literature.
AJ’s fascination with the optimization of athletic performance was fostered by his participation in sports growing up. He lettered in 4 varsity sports, Football, Wrestling, Track, and Weightlifting. Following high school, AJ moved to Jacksonville to play football for the Jacksonville University Dolphins. After injuries ended his football career, during his sophomore year, AJ continued college at the University of North Florida. He graduated with Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science. In 2018, AJ began an internship at Atlas Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine as a Physical Therapy Technician. AJ originally planned to continue college to become a DPT. However, a unique opportunity presented itself in the formation of a sports performance team that has grown into what is: TORK Sports Performance. AJ’s current position as lead strength and conditioning coach has allowed him to blend his gregarious personality with his love for physical development to create a positive training culture and impact athletes of all ages.
Since 2018, AJ has worked as the primary strength & conditioning coach for 100+ athletes. He plays a critical role in the administration of scientific training programs, focused on data tracking and intrasession adjustments to improve adaptations. AJ has also been an integral part of developing TORK Sports Performance into its new 3,750 sq. ft. facility. AJ is known as a strength coach who practices what he preaches, where he continues to push himself in multiple athletic endeavors. He has competed in the USAPL, where he has finished as high as 3rd in his 83kg weight class. Additionally, AJ is currently self-programming a training plan to attempt to break the 90mph mark. Having never played baseball before, he appreciates not only teaching the science of movement but also experiencing it himself.
AJ’s current interests as they pertain to emerging science in strength and conditioning are strength/power development, speed kinograms, rotational velocity, arm health in the overhead athlete, VBT, and autoregulation. He individualizes each athlete's training program through a reverse engineering of their sport demands. He combines the needs of the athlete with the limitations derived from their force-velocity profile and orthopedic screening to best address deficits in movement literacy, stability, strength, power, and/or speed. AJ has been fortunate to coach athletes across the skill spectrum. He has worked with athletes in middle school, high school, NCAA, and athletes playing in the MiLB, MLB, and NFL.
AJ is excited to continue the development of a unique sports performance facility. He continues to instill attributes such as work ethic, accountability, respect, and responsibility among the athletes he coaches. He and his team have developed a culture of family, discipline, and an attitude to excel in any endeavor.
